Raymundo Garduño Cruz and Juan Francisco González Aguilar, the two actors working on ‘The Chosen One’, a show by Netflix, died in a car crash while traveling near the Mexican city of Mulegé. Their names were given by the Baja California Department of Culture to the Associated Press on Friday. 

Six others from the production team inside the crew van were also wounded in the accident. The team had been shooting near the Santa Rosalia region in the Mexican state of Baja California.

Local media outlets reported that the accident took place on Thursday when the crew’s vehicle flipped after driving off the road in a desert region. 

According to Netflix, ‘The Chosen One’ is a thriller series based on a 12-year-old boy who “learns he’s the returned Jesus Christ, destined to save humankind.”

The show is inspired by a comic book series by Peter Gross and Mark Millar. Its showrunners are Everardo Gout (known for ‘The Forever Purge’- 2011 and ‘Days of Grace’- 2011) and Leopoldo Gout, who is known for ‘Molly’s Game’ (2017) and ‘Instinct’ (2018).

‘The Chosen One’ is Millar’s latest project to be undertaken by Netflix. Previously, the streaming platform purchased Millarworld in 2017.

The series made its debut in 2019 with its first season, which contained six episodes. It starred Renan Tenca, Paloma Bernardi, Gutto Szuster, Pedro Caetano and Alli Willow in lead roles.

The second season of the show, which began its filming process in April in Mexico, is being produced by an anonymous independent production company, according to casting calls. There has been no information yet about how the accident has affected the show’s production. Netflix has not commented on the accident yet.
