‘The Day I Met Spiderman’ is the first movie that is being filmed in Ukraine since Russia invaded on February 24, Deadline reported.
Cameras are rolling on a film from Mamas Production, which is being billed as a joint project of the Organization of Ukrainian Producers (OUP) and AMO Pictures.
The plot centres around a volunteer who finds supernatural powers within herself and goes on to save the life of a boy from Bucha.
Established in March, the OUP comprises seven experienced Ukrainian producers. It was established to make documentaries and features focusing on the premise, course, as well as consequences of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Though production largely halted in the war-torn country, the creators of the film were able to piece together resources, and Deadline reports that filming started in early May and is currently going on in Lviv, Kyiv, and other Ukrainian cities.

“Being the first in war-torn Ukraine to shoot a fiction movie is a challenge for the OUP. Originally the organization was aimed at shooting documentaries”, said Alla Lipovetska, co-founder of the OUP and Mamas Production.
The cast includes Elithaveta Zaitseva, Olexandr Rudynsky, Olesya Zhurakivska and Kateryna Kysen. The film will release in the fall, and there’ll be widescale distribution on various streaming services, cinemas, and broadcasters, with plans for festival releases as well.

“You may know the story of Peter Parker, who became Spider-Man. You may have heard the story of Bruce Wayne wearing a Batman outfit. We will tell you the story of Katya — a volunteer who felt an inner superpower”, said Anton Skrypets, the concept creator.
“We are interested in supporting Ukrainian cinema. We have been aiming to do this for a long time, and the start of film production has coincided with our plans”, AMO Chief Operating Officer Anatoly Dudinsky added.
