The Gray Man‘ introduces several interesting characters in the world of espionage, but nobody is quite as fiery as Dhanush’s Lone Wolf or Avik San. He is one of the assassins who Chris Evans’ Lloyd Hansen places on Ryan Gosling’s Sierra Six’s tail.

After Six manages to take out three teams of assassins, nobody responds to Hansen’s message, except for Lone Wolf, who appears to still be tracking Six and his partner Dani Miranda, played by Ana de Armas

Dhanush appears on screen for the first time, and Hansen refers to him as his “sexy Tamil friend”. As the moniker Lone Wolf suggests, the character works alone and seems to be singularly determined in the way he follows Six and Miranda to the hospital and attacks them while the two are recovering from the havoc unleashed in Prague.

Per Hansen’s statement, the assassin seems to hail from Tamil Nadu, a southern Indian state. Despite being a skilled fighter, both with a knife and in hand-to-hand combat, Lone Wolf has a moral code.

He hesitates when he hears that Hansen plans on hurting a little girl. Of course, the antagonist doesn’t get a chance to make good on his threat, since Miranda and Six attack their compound. During the fight that ensues, Lone Wolf finds himself going toe to toe with Miranda.

An evenly-matched fistfight later, he gains the upper hand over her. However, Lone Wolf backs off the contract, saying he doesn’t care about the money and the people he got into business with are not “honourable”. He hands Miranda the locket which contains the drive with information on unsanctioned CIA operations and walks away.

The actor’s screen presence and the character’s enigmatic past have piqued audience interest, with the Russo brothers even hinting that there might be a spinoff focusing on Lone Wolf.
