Just hours after rumors of a possible
sequel for 2007’s romantic classic The Holiday swarmed the internet, director
Nancy Meyers took to her social media to confirm that the rumors are actually
untrue.

On Monday, December 5, several news
outlets reported that the Cameron DiazKate Winslet starrer was set to return
for a sequel with its primary cast, 16 years after its original release.

Daily Mail Celebrity shared a news
article on Twitter, captioning “The Holiday is getting a sequel with the original
cast 17 years later”.

However, just a couple of hours later, director and screenwriter
of the original movie, Nancy Meyers uploaded a picture of the tweet with the
caption “So many DM’s about this – sorry but it’s not true”.

Meyer’s post instantly received requests
from fans of the movie who called for a sequel of the cult classic. “Nancy!!!

Entertainment Weekly also reported that
sources confirmed the sequel rumors were false and that Kate Winslet had not

The rumors were first
reported by The Sun which claimed that a source had informed of the sequel,
