Dr. Bryanna Fox is a former FBI special agent and is now an associate Professor in the Criminology Department at the University of South Florida within the Florida Mental Health Institute.

She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. Dr. Fox specialises in psychological and developmental risk factors profiling criminals. She also looks into the profiling of repeat offenders. Some of her fortes include formulating crime prevention strategies, evidence-based policing, and experimental field research.

She has over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles and has been published by numerous famous outlets within the field of criminal behaviour, such as Justice Quarterly, Psychological Bulletin, Law & Society Review, Criminal Justice & Behaviour, and Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency.
Dr. Fox holds numerous accolades, including the 2013 Excellence in Law Enforcement Research Award from the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the 2014 Nigel Walker prize for Outstanding Ph.D. Research from the University of Cambridge, the Early Career Award in 2017 from the American Society of Criminology’s Division of Developmental and Life-Course Criminology, and the Outstanding Research Achievement Award from the University of South Florida.

She founded SPRUCE Research Labs, which conducts studies on the psychological risk factors within criminal behaviour and develops evidence-based tools to aid in law enforcement training. The Lab engages numerous USF students in the research process with law enforcement bodies across Florida.
The Criminology professor is also on the editorial boards of numerous publications such as Youth Violence & Juvenile Justice, Journal of Criminal Justice, Criminal Justice & Behaviour, Policing: An International Journal, and many more.

Fox is currently starring in ABC’s News Studio series; The Lesson is Murder. The show’s idea was influenced by Bryanna’s forensic psychology class of 2018. In the show, Dr. Bryanna Fox, with her students, studies the psyche of three incarcerated killers, including Ivie DeMolina, Robert Fratta, and Will Davis.

While filming the series, Fox emphasised that she wanted to show the viewers how real cases are solved with the help of science-based research. She also hopes that viewers will get some insight into identifying early behavioural warnings within people through the show.
