The Lesson is Murder by ABC News Studio is a true crime docuseries where ex-FBI special agent and criminology professor Dr. Bryanna Fox profiles criminals. Along with her students, Dr. Fox dives deep into the minds of those who have committed heinous murders and are facing incarceration.

The docuseries analyzes one such case involving a woman convict named Ivie DeMolina. In 1994, Ivie was working as a sex worker and dominatrix. Although this was a temporary job for her, she made a group of friends, ultimately leading to her heinous crimes.

They hatched a plan to rob people. The group went to New Jersey, where DeMolina contacted a previous client. When they decided to meet, DeMolina and her friends tied the man up and robbed the man.

The robbery soon escalated to murder. Just the next day after robbing the man, DeMolina, this time, contacted James Polites. Ivie had previously dated this man. They met in New Jersey, but Polites never lived to see him the next day. He was later found stabbed to death, and his apartment was completely ransacked.

Committing a murder did not stop the group. Three days later, they reached Long Island. It was for the following murder they committed that DeMolina was finally arrested. After reaching Long Island, Ivie got in touch with Joseph Fiammetta. Like Polites, DeMolina was previously acquainted with Fiammetta.

Ivie DeMolina met Fiammetta at his apartment. Little did he know that that would be the last day of his life. Fiammetta was found stabbed to death just like Polites, and he had been robbed too.

However, it was Fiammetta’s murder that would land Ivie DeMolina in jail. The police connected the New Jersey murder of Polites with the Long Island murder of Fiammetta. Both murders had DeMolina as the shared link.

As a result, she was convicted in 1996. DeMolina was charged with second-degree murder for the murder, robbery, and burglary of Joseph Fiammetta. As a result, she was sentenced to 25 years to life.
