The Mandalorian Season 3, Episode 4 saw Kelleran Beq, a relatively new Jedi saving Grogu from the Order 66. Fans are curious to know more about Order 66 and how it has doomed many Jedi in the Star Wars Franchise.

What is Order 66?

In the Galactic Republic era, a Jedi Master organized the creation of the Grand Army of the Republic, composed entirely of clones engineered by a slender grey alien species known as Kaminoans. The Grand Army was remarkably successful in its mission to fight against the Separatists.

However, it had a significant flaw: the Sith, who worship the Dark Side, had implanted each clone with a mind-control chip. The chip made it impossible for individual soldiers to disobey the orders of Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, also known as the Sith Lord Darth Sidious.

In 19 BBY, Sidious secretly issued Order 66 to all Grand Army units under Republic command. The order labeled every living Jedi a traitor to the Republic, with the punishment for treason being death. Fallen Order takes place a mere five years after Order 66 was executed.

To relive the events of the darkest time in Jedi history, fans can watch Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. The murders that follow Order 66 form a significant portion of the movie’s climax. The most gruesome moment occurs when a newly minted Lord Darth Vader marches into the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and kills everyone inside, including Yoda’s youngling class of force-sensitive children.

While a few Jedi survived Order 66, such as Yoda, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka Tano, Kanan Jarrus (who is featured in the final season of Clone Wars before starring in Rebels), and possibly Quinlan Vos (if hints from the sequel series are to be believed), the killings did not stop after Sidious’ executions.

The Jedi purge required a specialized group of Jedi hunters known as Inquisitors. Fans can catch glimpses of their work in Marvel’s long-running Darth Vader comics, various Star Wars animated shows, and Respawn’s latest game.
