It was obvious when  Grogu’s summons was answered by Luke Skywalker from the Jedi Temple on Tython. That doesn’t mean we weren’t surprised to see the legendary Jedi Master appear in The Mandalorian’s season two finale. You can’t expect one of the franchise’s most crucial characters to appear in a Disney+ series set 25 years before the second trilogy.

Or, at the very least, you couldn’t previously. Anti-aging technologies and CGI allow for any and all appearances. And if Mark Hamill can appear in two Star Wars series, so can and should anyone. And it appears that this will be the case for the third season of ‘The Mandalorian’.

A word from the Producer

According to executive producer Rick Famuyiwa, the “adventures become larger” in the third chapter of the program. More enticingly, he also stated that “the personalities you encounter may be as iconic as Luke Skywalker.” That’s a huge tease with tremendous ramifications. So, who are those renowned characters? From those yet to make their live-action Star Wars debut to the franchise’s most crucial individuals, these are the notable faces we believe will feature in season three of ‘The Mandalorian’. Here are some iconic characters that may appear in Season 3.

1) Hondo Ohnaka

The adorable, deceptive, loquacious Weequay pirate from The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels has yet to steal a live-action cameo in the galaxy far, far away. (Although, he does have an amazing animatronic at Disney Parks’ Galaxy’s Edge.) This is one cameo we really want to see. Hondo Ohnaka is not just one of our favorites, but we also know he was active in the years following The Empire’s demise. A classic meeting would be Din Djarin dealing with the attractive, deceptive Hondo.

2) Quinlan Vos

Obi-Wan Kenobi revealed that Jedi Quinlan Vos from The Clone Wars not only survived Order 66, but also continued to serve the galaxy throughout Palpatine’s reign. The mere mention of a well-known Star Wars character who has yet to debut in a live-action production feels like an obvious instance of Chehkov’s blaster. The third season of ‘The Mandalorian’ might see the beloved Jedi finally arrive in person. Not only is he a fantastic character deserving of such a role, but it would also reveal that Quinlan outlived the emperor.

3) Ben Solo (AKA Kylo Ren)

If either Han Solo or Leia Organa, or to make it better, if both of them appear on The Mandalorian, they may be accompanied by one of the franchise’s most significant figures: their son Ben. During the third season of ‘The Mandalorian’, the future Kylo Ren would be about the age of 5 or 6.

He’d be several years away from turning to the Dark Side, but the teasers for Season 3 keep hinting at the galaxy’s increasing menace, which we know will become the First Order. It would be only right if we met the group’s future Supreme Leader as a child, much as we did with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin in The Phantom Menace.

4) Leia Organa

In Rogue One, Lucasfilm employed motion capture and CGI to bring back the late Peter Cushing’s famous adversary Grand Moff Tarkin. Its film also included a computer-generated rendition of Carrie Fisher’s Leia Organa. Although tragically passing away before production, the adored actress starred in The Rise of Skywalker. If her family offers their blessing once more, the great hero may return on The Mandalorian. She, like Han Solo, is one of the few people alive during the show’s time period who is indisputably as legendary as her twin brother Luke.

5) Lando Calrissian

This appearance could be so big that even C-3PO can predict how fans will react to a surprise Lando Calrissian appearance on ‘The Mandalorian’. It would receive unanimous approval. That is, assuming either Donald Glover from Solo or Billy Dee Williams from the original and sequel trilogy returns to portray the character. Cloud City’s hero and his capes always make Star Wars a nicer place to visit.
