DC’s latest superhero flick ‘The Suicide Squad‘ is set to rake in $30 million from North America, according to a report in Deadline. Globally, the film could register a $70million global box office. The film is directed by James Gunn, his first venture with DC after delivering hits for Marvel Studios.

The movie is yet to release in several parts of the world, and hence the earnings look low when compared to other comic-book movies. The movie, which is R-rated, has already grossed $4 million in its preview collections.

Last year, the entertainment industry had coe to a standstill after the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Shootings and theatres had to be shut.

Another R-rated DC movie, which had released just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, was ‘Birds of Prey’. The film had made $4 million too. So the earnings of ‘The Suicide Squad’ are significant for an R-rated movie that released during the pandemic.

The DC superhero action-adventure consists of an ensemble cast including Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Sylvester Stallone, and Viola Davis. Margot Robbie is again seen in the role of the eccentric ‘Harley Quinn’, wwhile Idris Elba in a new entry to the ‘Suicide Squad’ and plays the role of ‘Bloodsport’, a deadly assassin.

After the poor performance of Suicide Squad in 2016, directed by David Ayer, Warner Bros. had roped in James Gunn to reboot the franchise.

Gunn, who has also written the movie, has promised fans that ‘The Suicide Squad’ is going to be different from any superhero movie ever made and also that it is by far the biggest movie he has worked on.

The film has so far received mixed reviews. While action sequences in the film are being praised by many, the storyline has not gone down well with a lot of critics. “Enlivened by writer-director James Gunn’s singularly skewed vision, The Suicide Squad marks a funny, fast-paced rebound that plays to the source material’s violent, anarchic strengths,” reads the critical consensus on Rotten Tomatoes.
