Popular Canadian singer and songwriter The Weeknd cancelled his his concert on Saturday evening, September 3, 2022, at the Sofi Stadium after ‘losing’ his voice in the midst of his first song.

“My voice went out during the first song and I’m devastated,” a statement issued by the singer on Instagram read.

“My deepest apologies to my fans here. I promise I’ll make it up to you with a new date,” he added.

Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, known popularly as The Weeknd,  was performing his first song Can’t Feel My Face at the 70,000 seat strong Sofi Stadium in Inglewood, California, United States when he lost his voice. The performance was part of his After Hours Til Dawn tour and while the singer has promised a new concert, the new date is yet to be announced.

The singer also promised to give the visiting fans their money in his statement. “I can’t give you the concert I want to give you. I’m going to make sure everyone’s good, gets your money back, and I’ll do a show real soon for you guys, but I wanted to come out and personally apologize and not tweet it or Instagram it,” he said. 

“I wanted you guys to know that I can’t give you what I want to give you. I apologize. I’m so sorry,” he added.

How to get a refund of the concert tickets?

Tickets for The Weeknd’s After Hours Til Dawn tour went on sale on Ticketmaster shortly after he announced it. The ticket prices were kept in the range of $50.50 to $425 a piece. VIP tickets were sold in the range of $325-$425.

According to Ticketmaster, sales of tickets are final and refunds are only allowed by the company in a limited number of circumstances. For the refund of tickets, the approval and funds for the tickets will be needed by the event organizer, after which, a Request a Refund button will appear in the customers’ online Ticketmaster account.

The customers will need to submit a request through the button, following which, the refund will be processed using the original method of payment during the time of buying tickets.

However, Ticketmaster does not need any request from the customers in case of cancelled events. In this case, refund will be processed using the original method of payment during the time of buying tickets when funds from the event organizers are received by the company.

There are several other circumstances related to refunds at Ticketmaster, however, it does not apply for refund of tickets for the cancelled show of The Weeknd.
