At Disney’s D23 Expo today, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige unveiled the cast members for the studio’s upcoming movie Thunderbolts, which stars David Harbour, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Wyatt Russell, Florence Pugh, and Sebastian Stan.
At D23, it was revealed that the Jake Schreier-directed movie would wrap up Phase 5 of the MCU on July 26, 2024. There are few plot specifics, but Thunderbolts centres on a crew of villains who are dispatched on government-commissioned missions.
David Harbour will resume his role of Alexei Shostakov or the Red Guardian in the film. He is the first super soldier of Soviet-Russian descent in the MCU. The character debuted in the MCU in the Black Widow film.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus played the character of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and Black Widow. She will return to the role in Thunderbolts.
Sebastian Stan and Wyatt Russell will return to the screen as Bucky Barnes and John Walker respectively, as they appeared in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier series.
The project, which will begin production early next year, was introduced at Comic-Con in July.
Phase 5 of the MCU opens with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which is slated for release on February 17, 2023. Following the release of Thunderbolts, Phase 6 kicks off with a Fantastic Four film slated for release in theaters on November 8, 2024.
Other upcoming titles for Phase 6 include Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, which are respectively slated for release on May 2, 2025, and November 7, 2025.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which is scheduled for release on February 17, 2023, serves as the first entry in Phase 5 of the MCU.
After Thunderbolts is released, Phase 6 begins with a Fantastic Four movie set to hit theatres on November 8, 2024. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars are two further future films for Phase 6, with premiere dates of May 2, 2025, and November 7, 2025, respectively.
