A woman and her younger brother are suing Tiffany Haddish for alleged child sexual assault, which Haddish’s attorney is calling “bogus.” Siblings named only as Jane Doe, now 22, and John, now aged 15, claim that Haddish and MADtv alum Aries Spears forced them into filming sexually explicit scenes while they were minors for various comedic sketches, according to a story first published by The Daily Beast.

Jane filed the case against Haddish and Spears on Tuesday in California’s Superior Court for Los Angeles County on behalf of herself and her younger brother, John. Jane claims in her lawsuit that the defendants “groomed” the brother and sister when they were 14 and 7, respectively, leaving them both “traumatised for life.”

Haddish’s attorney, Andrew Brettler, vehemently refuted the allegations made in the complaint in a statement to Vanity Fair, calling them “meritless,” and asserting that the plaintiff’s mother, Trizah Morris, has “been trying to assert these bogus claims against Ms. Haddish for several years.”

The statement from Brettler continues, “Every attorney who has initially taken on her case—and there were several—ultimately dropped the matter once it became clear that the claims were meritless and Ms. Haddish would not be shaken down.” “Now, Ms. Morris has her adult daughter representing herself in this lawsuit. The two of them will together face the consequences of pursuing this frivolous action,” it adds.

According to The Daily Beast, the plaintiff says that Haddish was her mother’s close friend, to the point that she and her brother would refer to Haddish as “Auntie Tiff.” The plaintiff, who was 14 at the time, alleges that Haddish spoke at the comedy summer camp she was attending in 2013 and directed her to record a video, which was also made by Spears, that Haddish purportedly said would help Jane Doe get on television.

According to the lawsuit, Haddish and Spears are accused of filming Jane Doe engaging in inappropriate sexual actions on a sandwich for the “sexually suggestive Subway commercial” in question. Jane was told to imitate a video that featured an elderly couple “moaning and making sexual noises as they both ate the sandwich in a manner that simulated the act of fellatio,” according to the complaint, which left the plaintiff feeling “physically, emotionally, and mentally uncomfortable.”

The lawsuit continues by alleging that Spears abused the plaintiff’s brother, John Doe, in 2014 while recording another comedy video, Through a Pedophile’s Eyes, under the guise of making a reel for Nickelodeon.

The plaintiff alleges in the complaint that she visited Spears’ home with her brother John, who was then seven, but that they were kept apart so that John could record the video by himself with Spears. According to The Daily Beast, Haddish portrays John’s guardian in the video, who abandons him to be alone with Spears.

According to NBC News, the lawsuit asserts that Spears massages John with oil, enters a bathtub with him, and “leers at the child lustfully” in a number of sequences. The message from the video, according to reports, is “Watch who you leave your kids with!” According to the lawsuit, “after filming, Mr. Doe called his mother crying, saying he did not want to film anymore.”

For their respective videos, Jane and John Doe allegedly received $100 each from Haddish. The lawsuit claims that Spears informed Morris that the video of her kid had been erased. However, it asserts that the video was actually posted to the humour website Funny or Die before being taken down in 2018.

A Funny or Die spokesman gave the following comment to The Daily Beast: “Funny or Die found this video absolutely disgusting and would never produce such content. We were not involved with the conceptualization, development, funding, or production of this video. It was uploaded to the site as user-generated content and was removed in 2018 immediately after becoming aware of its existence.”

Haddish and Spears are being sued for intentional infliction of emotional distress, gross negligence, sexual battery, sexual harassment, and sexual abuse of a minor. Additionally, Haddish is being sued for constructive fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and negligent supervision/failure to warn. Debra Opri, Spears’s attorney, also refuted the allegations made against her client, telling VF that Spears “isn’t going to fall for any shakedown.”

Both the woman and her brother say that they’ve experienced severe emotional and psychological trauma since these episodes. Jane Doe is “scared she will be taken advantage of again and led down a path of false trust like the path that Haddish led her down,” the lawsuit claims.

According to the lawsuit, John Doe “stays in his room at home and places Band-Aids over the cameras on his electronics for fear of being watched or recorded.” He also has “a social disorder, depression, and anxiety.” Since their mother is said to have had serious mental health problems as well, Jane has been appointed John’s legal guardian.
