Hollywood actor
Tom Cruise, who is in the UK now to shoot for the seventh Mission: Impossible,
has become victim of a high-tech theft. The actor’s BMW X7 that was being used
to ferry him in and around UK was reported stolen earlier this week from
outside the Grand Hotel at Church Street in Birmingham. The SUV had thousands
of pounds worth of goods when it was stolen.

The theft
was confirmed by the West Midland Police. Police managed to recover the vehicle
in a short while as the car was equipped with an electronic tracking device.
But the goods inside the car, including some of Tom Cruise’s personal luggage,
were reported missing.

“We
received a report of a BMW X7 stolen from Church Street, Birmingham in the early

According
to the police report, the thieves used a scanner to clone the signal from the BMW
X7’s keyless ignition fob and were able to intercept the fob signal which
allowed them to steal the SUV within minutes. A similar process was probably used
to start the car as well, according to the police.

The BMW X7
that was stolen and later recovered is believed to be part of Tom Cruise’s
cavalcade as the actor was travelling across Birmingham to shoot the movie. BMW
and The Mission Impossible franchise have had a long-standing association. BMW
cars and bikes have featured regularly in the movies.

The seventh
Mission: Impossible has been in the works for quite some time now. The film
suffered severe production delays in the wake of the pandemic. Mission:
Impossible 7 is due for release on May 27, 2022.
