The nominations for the 95th Academy Awards were announced on Tuesday, January 24. The event is scheduled to take place on March 12 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. It will be hosted by American comedian and television host Jimmy Kimmel.
Top Gun: Maverick, the 2022 action film starring Tom Cruise was nominated in a number of categories including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Visual Effects, Best Editing, and Best Sound among others. However, the film failed to receive a nomination for the Best Cinematography category.

The film not earning the Best Cinematography nomination disappointed many fans who expressed their dissatisfaction towards the Oscars through social media.
A Twitter user wrote, “The top gun maverick cinematography snub is genuinely the most embarrassing thing for the academy literally how”.
Another user wrote, “what on earth happened to TOP GUN: MAVERICK missing cinematography and hitting adapted screenplay, did they announce it for the wrong category????”

A third wrote, “Might just be because I like the movie, but Top Gun Maverick not getting a nomination for cinematography after some of the shots they got in that movie in and out of the jets seems insane to me”

Entertainment journalist Christopher Rosen tweeted, “The Oscars said Top Gun: Maverick deserved a writing nomination but not one for cinematography when the correct answer was why not both?”
Top Gun: Maverick was released in April 2022 and starred Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, and Miles Teller in the lead roles. It is a sequel to the 1986 film Top Gun. Chilean cinematographer Claudio Miranda served as the cinematographer of the movie. He is mostly known for his work in the 2012 film Life Of Pi, which earned him the Academy Award for Best Cinematography. He became the second-ever Chilean person to win an Academy award. He collaborates frequently with director Joseph Kosinski, the director of Top Gun: Maverick.
