Actor Tom Hardy participated in the 2022 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open Championship at Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire, England, this Saturday. The tournament was conducted by Ultimate Martial Arts Championships, at a nearby school. Hardy’s appearance was surprising to his fellow competitors as was his win. 

The 45-year-old actor wore a blue gi (uniform) and was awarded a certificate of achievement which had his real name – Edward Hardy- inscribed. Hardy was praised by the tournament’s spokesperson for being a “really nice guy”, and said he was a “real pleasure” to host. According to him, The Mad Max: Fury Road actor was “humble” and posed with the attendees and participants for photos.

The Venom star also ventured into a Jiu-Jitsu tournament back in August. Hardy, a blue-belt fighter, entered the REORG Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship which took place in Wolverhampton, England and won too. That tournament was held to raise money for military personnel, veterans, and frontline workers who were battling PTSD and depression.

Hardy trained hard for the roles in movies like Warrior (2011) which showcased MMA drama. He publicly admitted how he went out of his way to prepare for his part in the movie which was directed by Gavin O’Connor. Hardy said, “I did two hours boxing a day, two hours Muay Thai, two hours Jiu-Jitsu followed by two hours choreography and two hours of weightlifting seven days a week for three months. So come on! You have to really want to do that, so it was a challenge”, he added.

Tom Hardy’s new movie Mad Max: The Wasteland will release on June 23, 2023. This upcoming movie is a sequel to the Mad Max film series and is scripted and directed by George Miller, and produced by Doug Mitchell. The cast, besides Hardy, includes actors like Charlize Theron, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Ahmed Adel.
