‘Uncharted’, the new Tom Holland film, is slated to be at the top of box office collections in the opening weekend. The adventure movie could make $45 million over the four-day-long Presidents’ Day weekend, which would set it up as 2022’s biggest theatrical opening thus far.

The film, based on a game, comes from Sony Pictures and brought in $15.4 on Monday, which set it up for a No 1 debut. Holland’s new project is the biggest box office opening after his previous stint as the web-slinging friendly neighbourhood hero. Not only did the Marvel offering, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ become a phenomenon dominating the holiday season, it also became the third highest-grossing film in history.

Holland has become a quick fit at Marvel and has even managed to anchor a trilogy. However, the actor needed a chance to show his box-office appeal outside the Spidey suit. ‘Uncharted’ is his first major non-Marvel blockbuster that Holland is attached to. Though the actor was part of Lionsgate’s ‘Chaos Walking’, the film was considerably delayed due to the pandemic and didn’t make much noise upon release either.

While the initial run hints at how bankable Holland is, the actual success of the movie will be gauged by its overseas performance as well. These grosses will help determine whether the film can break even and recover the $120 million that went into production.

Ruben Fleischer, who’s known for the ‘Zombieland’ movies, has helmed this film. Tom Holland plays Nathan Drake, a thief in search of a valuable object. He appears alongside Mark Wahlberg in the movie.

Coming up behind ‘Uncharted’ in the box office, is ‘Dog’, the new Channing Tatum film. Considering the actor spent some time away from the spotlight, this movie has gotten off to a strong start, appealing to audiences. In third place it is likely we will see more of Holland, as ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ secures the spot.
