Asha Parekh will receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2020, according to the news agency ANI’s tweet. The tweet read “Dada Saheb Phalke Award to be conferred to actor Asha Parekh this year: Union Minister Anurag Thakur”. Parekh has been a part of around 95 films and was the first female chairperson of the CBFC from 1998 to 2001. She was the highest paid and one of the most successful actors of her time She received the Padma Shri Award in 1992 and the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002.

1.  Dil Deke Dekho (1959)

Dil Deke Dekho was Parekh’s debut film in the industry, though she had worked as a child artist previously. Directed by Nasir Hussain, she was cast opposite Shammi Kapoor in this film. The movie’s plot is filled with misidentifications, follies involving lost possessions and a revenge track. Kapoor’s charisma and Parekh’s grace swept the audience off their feet.

2. Ghunghat (1960)

Ghunghat, starring Bharat Bhushan, Pradeep Kumar and Asha Parekh, is a Hindi drama movie directed by Ramanand Sagar. This film is an adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s novel Noukadubi. 

3. Kati Patang (1971)

Directed and produced by Shakti Samanta, Kati Patang is a Hindi-language musical drama film which was a box office success. Asha Parekh plays the role of Madhavi who pretends to be a widow. Parekh won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for Madhavi.

4. Shikhar (1968)

Shikhar, a 1968 Hindi thriller film, was directed and produced by Atma Ram. The murder mystery movie was successful in the box office and its album was also very well received. It features key performances by Dharmendra, Asha Parekh, Sanjeev Kumar, Helen, Bela Bose and Ramesh Deo.

5. Aan Milo Sajna (1970)

Aan Milo Sajna is directed by Mukul Dutt and casts Asha Parekh, Rajesh Khanna and Nirupa Roy amongst others. The music of the film was by Laxmikant Pyarelal and it was a well accepted album as well. The film was one of Rajesh Khanna’s 17 consecutive hit films from 1969 to 1971.
