‘Top Gun: Maverick’ has crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide, becoming only the second film in the pandemic era to do so. It is also the first time in Tom Cruise’s 40-year career that he has reached this milestone.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Top Gun: Maverick broke the $1 billion mark after finishing Sunday with an estimated domestic total of $521.7 million and an overseas total of $484.7 million.

According to the report, the film saw a surge in its fifth weekend, grossing $30.5 million domestically and $44.5 million overseas for a weekend total of $30.5 million.

The film, directed by Joseph Kosinski and written by Ehren Kruger, has surpassed Benedict Cumberbatch’s Marvel superhero film ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’, which grossed an estimated $943 million worldwide.

Top Gun: Maverick is the sequel to the 1986 film Top Gun, which starred Tom Cruise as Captain Pete Maverick and grossed $357.8 million at the box office.

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ follows Maverick’s reluctant return to the United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor programme, where he must confront his past while training a group of younger aviators.

Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, and Val Kilmer also play important roles in this Tom Cruise film.

Top Gun: Maverick has become the world’s second highest-grossing film since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
