After
a much extended COVID-19 delay, the Golden Globes Awards 2021 nominations were
announced on Wednesday with a bang and it unveiled a list of several expected
movies, TV shows, actors and directors who will be competing for the
prestigious honour on February 28.

But the nominations at many points shocked us to core with the unexpected entries. Here are the snubs and surprises from today’s Golden Globe picks.

SURPRISE:
Best Supporting Actor — Jared Leto (The Little Things)

Who
could have guessed it right? None of us could have predicted Jared Leto nominations
for John Lee Hancock’s thriller, Considering that the movie was released just
last week. The picks surely is a big surprise and it’s a pleasant one for the
lovers of the craft.

SNUB: Da 5 Bloods in any category

The
fact that the stellar Vietnam war drama came out of the Golden Globe nominations
completely empty handed, that too after being honored by significant critics
prizes and making it to the AFI Top 10 honors was a real shocker.

SURPRISE: Al Pacino

To some it hit like a nightmare while some considered it a bad joke but Pacino’s nomination in the Golden Globe 2021 for the unintentionally comical Hunter was the most unwarranted thing on the face of this earth. This surprise bad surprise.

SNUB: Meryl Streep

After not spotting the name Meryl Streep in the list of nominees we just have one question. How?  How can you have an award event and not nominate this brilliant product of art? Total snub and nothing but a snub.

SURPRISE:
Emerald Fennell, for directing ‘Promising Young Women’

This
has to be the best surprise of the day. Finally, years of pressure for not nominating
women directors, Golden Globes stepped up to set the record straight and they
did it by nominating Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Woman,  Regina King for One Night in Miami and Chloe
Zhao for Nomadland. Thanks Golden Globe.

SNUB:
Michaela Coel for ‘I May Destroy You’

Remember
the first time we watched Michael Coel’s brilliant performance in the  series inspired by her real life events and
your brain went WOW. And so did the critics and reviews and ratings but turns
out it was not good enough for Golden Globe as it completely shut it in all
categories. (Slow claps for GG)
