Motorsports legend Travis Pastrana on Thursday revealed that he met with a horrifying parachute crash in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, on Saturday and sustained serious injuries.

The 38-year-old posted a video from his hospital saying that his failed base jump attempt resulted in him suffering from a broken back.

The X Games gold medalist said he broke the L5 vertebra in his back and suffered “multiple hip fractures” and a “pinned sacrum.” He is, however, expected to make a full recovery.

In the caption, he mentioned that he was filming for ‘Gymkhana’ when a stunt went wrong.

“I had the opportunity to BASE jump a very easy set up from a tall building with a big landing. Had the best in the business out here giving me the best advice but a series of unfortunate events led to me being in a bad place,” he wrote.

He added that this injury won’t make his hip and back “any worse than what it is when I went in, which isn’t saying much. Everything was fused down there anyway.”

Speaking to TMZ sports, Ft. Lauderdale Fire Chief Stephen Gollan had said the accident happened when a video crew was shooting in the area of Las Olas Blvd. and Andrews Ave.

“A stunt during that event did not go as planned resulting in a hard landing of a parachutist that jumped from the Hyatt Hotel. The adult male was immediately treated and transported in serious but stable condition to Broward Health,” Gollan had said.
