Popular American rapper Trina began trending on social media sites after news emerged that a 17-year-old girl was shot dead in Miami on Wednesday. The victim, Sugar, who is reportedly a niece to the rapper, was declared dead at the scene. While Trina is yet to issue a statement on the matter, social media is abuzz on the shooting amidst America’s increasing gun violence.

While gun violence may be turning out to be a common scare in the US, victims including relatives of celebrities is still something that most Americans haven’t had the time to get used to. However, many celebrities have been charged with different gun laws over the years in the US, and one among them was Trina’s former boyfriend and popular rapper, Lil Wayne.

Wayne, who has a long career spanning three decades, has also faced his fair share of problems and controversies in his life. However, according to a report by the US Attorney’s Office in the southern district of Florida, the rapper pleaded guilty in a federal court of illegally possessing a gun in 2020.

“38-year-old rapper Lil Wayne pled guilty in federal district court to illegally possessing a loaded, gold-plated .45-caliber handgun while traveling to South Florida on a private plane last Christmas season,” the report read.

It was not the only time when Trina’s former boyfriend, Lil Wayne, has been in a similar situation. According to a report by TMZ, the rapper “allegedly pulled an assault rifle” during a dispute with one of his bodyguards.

Gun violence is on the rise in the US, and some of these horrific incidents even had children in the crossfire. In the recent incident, during a Fourth of July celebration in Chicago, a gunman opened fire on the crowd, killing and injuring several, including children.

Trina also had faced a similar incident in the past, when her brother was gunned down in 2013. She had also reacted on Twitter when Lil Wayne’s former brother-in-laws were killed in gun violence, expressing her grief to Wayne’s former wife Toya Wright.
