Social media went abuzz as news spread like wildfire that popular American rapper Trina’s niece, Sugar, was killed in a shooting in Miami on Wednesday. According to authorities, the horrific incident took place around midnight and Sugar was declared dead on the scene.

According to reports, Trina’s niece, whom she endearingly called ‘Baby Suga’, was one of three women who were shot at the scene. However, the status of the two other women is unknown at the time.

The incident comes at a time where less than two years ago, the rapper’s former boyfriend, Lil Wayne, pleaded guilty in a gun charge. However, it is not the first time that Trina had to go through something so horrendous.

In 2013, Trina’s brother, Willbrent Bain Jr. was shot dead in Northwest Miami following a dispute with a friend. Known widely as ‘Goonkie,’ Trina’s brother reportedly had survived another shooting incident in 2008. Willbrent, 19, also had an active criminal record at the time of his death, including burglary, drugs, illegal gun possession as well as domestic violence.

The incident happened in Northwest Miami, on 91st street in broad daylight. According to authorities, the shooting took place on April 24, 2013 at around 9:35 AM.

Soon after the killing, authorities apprehended a 27-year-old man, Ron Dobson, in connection with the incident.

According to Bain’s neighbours at the time, Trina’s brother was a friend to Dobson and lived close by. Eyewitnesses said that the two men had a dispute, which soon turned into a crime scene when Dobson shot Bain multiple times with a firearm.

Trina revealed in 2021 that she still mourns her brother to this day and becomes anxious whenever Bain’s death anniversary comes.

“Every year this day, I have the worst anxiety of the day right now. At 9:51, my little brother was killed and I don’t want to talk about none of this s**t today. Not no work, no radio, nothing,” she said.

It is the second time in Trina’s life when a close relative to the rapper has become a victim of the raging gun violence in the US. However, she is yet to issue a statement regarding the killing of her niece, Sugar.
