Vaishali
Takkar was due to be married to a Kenya-based dental surgeon named Abhinandan
Singh
earlier. The duo got engaged as part of a roka ceremony. After the roka
ceremony, Takkar had told The Times Of India: “We met on a matrimonial site and
started talking. During the lockdown last year, my mom just in a fun way, jokingly
made my profile and she was like let’s get you married.”

“Arranged
marriage was never on my mind. But this is happening. My mom created my profile
and since during the lockdown I didn’t have the option of going out an finding
the love of my life, I thought it’s fine if I find it through a matrimonial
site,” Takkar had said.

The
engagement, however, did not reach fruition and the couple decided to break up
soon after. She later removed all pictures of the two of them from her social
media handles.

Vaishali
Takkar’s suicide has cast a pall of gloom across the contours of Indian
television. It has also reminded many of a similar death in June, 2020, that of
Sushant Singh Rajput. Vaishali and Sushant were both young people born and
raised outside the metropolis. While Takkar was from Indore, Sushant was from
Bihar capital Patna. The two were good friends. When she learnt of Sushant
Singh Rajput’s death, Vaishali Takkar had cried for two to three days, she had
told Spotboye in an interview.
