Vince McMahon, the former chairman and CEO of WWE, made what appeared to be his last appearance in the ring on Friday night’s SmackDown Live event.

Walking to the stage with his signature song, ‘No Chance in Hell’ by Jim Johnston playing in the background, the 76-year-old tried his best to maintain a smile.

After walking on to the ring, McMahon kept his comments brief.

“It is a privilege as always to stand before you here tonight, the WWE universe…I’m here simply to remind you of the four words we just saw in what we call our WWE signature. Those four words are: then, now, forever, and the most important word is together. Welcome to ‘SmackDown!’,” said the 76-year-old, prior to leaving the ring after his brief segment.

The segment on Friday’s SmackDown Live event came hours after WWE announced that McMahon would be stepping down from his role in the world’s most prominent professional wrestling brand.

McMahon’s removal from his role was announced after the WWE launched an investigation into allegations that the 76-year-old paid $3 million in hush money to an employee with whom he had an affair, a development first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

“McMahon will retain his role and responsibilities related to WWE’s creative content during this period and remains committed to cooperating with the review underway,” WWE said, commenting on its decision.

McMahon, for his part, pledged full cooperation with the ongoing investigation, saying, “I have pledged my complete cooperation to the investigation by the special committee, and I will do everything possible to support the investigation. I have also pledged to accept the findings and outcome of the investigation, whatever they are.”
