Swedish singer Loreen was announced as the winner of Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool, sparking a fan outrage on social media who claimed that the competition was rigged. Multiple fans of the competition took to social media to voice their opinions that Loreen’s victory was rigged to allow Sweden to host the competition in 2024, exactly 50 years after international pop sensation ABBA won the competition back in 1974.

One fan wrote on Twitter, “Look I’m not saying it’s rigged but… Sweden winning the year before the anniversary of ABBA’s win seems entirely too convenient to me.”

Another person said, “No way they rigged the entire thing so Sweden can host it on the 50 year anniv of ABBA’s win bro. I’m SALTY.”

While a third person expressed his displeasure saying, “I’m not a conspiracy theorist but the idea that this was rigged so Sweden can host on the fiftieth anniversary of the Abba win makes lots of sense right now.” Adding to the speculations of fixing, fans spotted that Loreen’s microphone had been left on.

Finland’s entry – “Cha Cha Cha” by Käärija earned the highest score from the public and eventually finished second with 526 points.

Fans have already called on organizers to “abolish” the jury system, alleging that it “brings the contest itself into disrepute” as a result of the national juries tipping the winner in Loreen’s favor. Fans also claimed that Finland had been “robbed” of a victory due to the system.
