Netflix movie ‘Blonde’, which tells Marilyn Monroe’s story, by writer and director Andrew Dominik has its first teaser trailer out.

Starring Ana de Armas as Monroe, ‘Blonde’ is based on the novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates. The movie reimagines the personal and professional life of the memorable Hollywood icon.

The minute-long teaser is scored to a haunting rendition of Monroe’s ‘Diamonds are a girl’s best friend’, as viewers catch glimpses of some of the standout media moments of Monroe’s life, including the famous billowing dress as she stood over a New York City subway grate. The teaser also shows the loneliness that comes with stardom.

Norma Jeane, who went on to become Monroe, had a volatile childhood, which the film explores. It traces her romantic entanglements as well, and actively blurs fact and fiction while exploring the growing chasm between Monroe’s private and public lives.

The 34-year-old Cuban actor stuns as Monroe, and de Armas told Vanity Fair that the role was too history-making to pass up.

“I only had to audition for Marilyn once and Andrew said ‘It’s you,’ but I had to audition for everyone else”, she said, adding “The producers. The money people. I always have people I needed to convince. But I knew I could do it. Playing Marilyn was groundbreaking. A Cuban playing Marilyn Monroe. I wanted it so badly. You see that famous photo of her and she is smiling in the moment, but that’s just a slice of what she was really going through at the time.”

The actor, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in Rian Johnson’s ‘Knives Out’, also noted that she’s never had a closer collaborative relationship than the one with Dominik.

“Yes, I have had collaborative relationships [with directors], but to get phone calls at midnight because he has an idea and he can’t sleep and [then] all of a sudden you can’t sleep for the same reason”, de Armas said.

Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Tracey Landon and Scott Robertson are attached as producers, while Christina Oh executive produces. ‘Blonde’ releases on Netflix on September 23.
