On March 17, Chhoti Holi, a video of people splashing in a large pool near water rides at a water park in Patna went viral on social media.

One thing we can all agree on is that there is no single method to celebrate Holi. The celebration began as a simple face-painting custom, but it has since evolved into over ten different versions. In celebration of the event, revellers in Patna, Bihar, were seen flinging footwear at each other.

People in some parts of northern India celebrate Lathmar Holi, an ancient Hindu festival, while others play with coloured water. Water cannons are used in other places to depict entire congregations of tens of thousands of people reading.

In a video recently uploaded on Twitter, however, revellers in Patna, Bihar, were seen flinging footwear at each other in celebration of the occasion.

In the 1-minute-29-second video, two groups of individuals standing in a shallow pool of water swapped ‘flying chappals,’ while others watched from the edge. Many young males from the close end eventually march far into the water park, scaring people on the other side far away.

Many others, including the slipper-flingers, were spotted dancing occasionally to the rhythms of a song playing in the background, indicating that the celebrations were all in a lighthearted spirit.

As people played ‘Chappal Maar Holi,’ aiming at each other, slippers flew everywhere. Hundreds of pairs of shoes can be seen floating in the pool and flying through the air. The video has received over 36,000 views and 1,000 likes thus far. Many people left amusing remarks, such as “Throwing Chappals at Holi is a reusable and environment component,” which was written by one of the users. “Spain has tomatino, and India has Chappaltino!” said another.
