Jenna Ortega appears as Wednesday, the Addams family member, in the new Tim Burton Netflix series.
We see the ‘Scream 5‘ and ‘You’ actor in the teaser, braiding her hair while the streaming platform “woefully presents” the spinoff. Just as Wednesday steps into the spotlight, we see Thing on her shoulder. Originally known as Thing T. Thing, this is a fictional character conceived as something so horrible that only the hand is tolerable. Needless to say, Thing has been a mainstay with the macabre obsessed family.
The Addams family originally comes from the mind of Charles Addams who made a series of New Yorker cartoons. The aristocratic clan of bizarre characters who display the most blatant disregard for how society perceives them became popular after the 1964 sitcom added some depth to their personalities. Since then, the Addams family led to two live-action theatrical releases, two animated movies, a Broadway musical, and two animated series.

Wednesday is the only daughter of Gomez and Morticia Addams and was originally depicted as the most sweet-natured of the lot. However, in the 1991 Barry Sonnenfeld-directed movie adaptation, her character became much more sadistic and deadpan, with Christina Ricci’s portrayal boosting the character’s popularity within the franchise.
In the Netflix spinoff, we see her attending the Nevermore Academy boarding school, where Wednesday develops psychic powers and begins investigating a supernatural killing spree that is connected to the history of her family.

The rest of the Addams family is expected to appear in the series as well with Catherine Zeta-Jones playing Morticia, Victor Dorobantu appearing as Thing, Isaac Ordonez stepping into the role of Wednesday’s sibling Pugsley, and George Burcea playing lurch, the family servant. Luis Guzmán guest stars as Gomez. Ricci, who played Wednesday in the 1991 movie, is set to appear in an unspecified role in a nod to the Addams family canon.
