Werewolf by Night director Michael Giacchino confirmed no special appearance by Moon Knight in the show’s upcoming Halloween special. Werewolf by Night and Moon Knight have a long established relationship in the Marvel Comic Universe, which is why fans speculated a possible crossover between the two. But Giacchino settled the speculation by confirming no immediate plans for the characters to appear together.

“Moon Knight first appeared in Werewolf by Night in the comics years ago, that’s what everyone is thinking. Yeah, there’s no immediate plans for anything like that.” he told ET Canada at D23 Expo.

According to Giacchino, werewolf predates Marc Spector by 3 years in the comics. In fact, Spector did not appear in the Marvel comics until 1975. He marked his first appearance in Werewolf by Night #32.

The two characters have similar power sets, having showcased the ability to draw powers from the moon and similar methods. In addition to that, both the characters exhibit a similarity in the tones, as their films break away from Marvel’s tension easing humour. Both films are set in a dark and eerie situation.

Even though the teaser of Moon Knight showed a Fist of Khonshu fighting an anthropomorphic wolf, Werewolf by Night was never to appear in the show. Moon Knight head writer Jeremy Slate confirmed this in an interview with Comicbook in May. “There weren’t discussions of doing Werewolf by Knight per se, just because they had already had some plans for him, and Kevin [Feige] had an idea of how he wanted to use him, which I’m still not privy to. I’m as in the dark as you are,” he told Comicbook.com in an interview.

Werewolf by Night will be released Disney+ on October 7th while the first season of Moon Knight is now streaming on Disney+.
