English singer and musician Christine McVie died on Wednesday, November 30, aged 79. She was a member of Fleetwood Mac, considered one of the greatest rock bands of the 1970s. Besides being the vocalist and keyboardist of the band, she also wrote several of their hit songs.

After her death was announced by her family members, fans and celebrities paid their tributes to the late singer. One of the famous names who paid his respects to McVie is former US President Bill Clinton.

In a statement posted on his Twitter, the 42nd US President wrote, “I’m saddened by the passing of Christine McVie.”

Sharing about how Fleetwood Mac’s song Don’t Stop was used during his Presidential campaign, he said, ‘Don’t Stop’ was my ’92 campaign theme song – it perfectly captured the mood of a nation eager for better days. I’m grateful to Christine & Fleetwood Mac for entrusting us with such a meaningful song.” “I will miss her”, Clinton wrote, finishing up his tribute to McVie.

The former President also shared a 1-minute clip titled When Music makes History, talking about the impact that the song had on Clinton and his followers. “During his 1992 run for the presidency, Bill Clinton chose Don’t Stop by Fleetwood Mac to be his campaign theme song,” the video states.

The clip adds, “The song had reached #3 on the pop charts in 1977 and appealed to Clinton’s baby boomer demographic. After Fleetwood Mac broke up in 1987, the original lineup reunited for one night to perform “Don’t Stop” at Clinton’s 1993 Inaugural Gala.” The clip further wrote about how the song became linked to Clinton in the years following his presidency.

After the official announcement from her family, the band paid tribute to the singer, writing a heartwarming note, stating her talent and her impact on the industry. “We were so lucky to have a life with her. Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. She will be so very missed,” the official Twitter statement read.

Stevie Nicks, American singer and songwriter, and McVie’s former bandmate also posted a handwritten note on Instagram paying her respects to her best friend.
