Rick Allen, Def Leppard’s renowned drummer, recently opened up about his recovery path just months after being assaulted after a gig in Fort Lauderdale in March. In an interview with “Good Morning America,” the 59-year-old drummer described being totally blindsided” by the attack.

“I heard a couple of steps and then I just saw this and the next thing I knew was I was on the ground. I landed on my backside… hit my head on the pavement. I don’t think he knew who I was, but he must have seen that I wasn’t a threat because, you know, I’ve only got one arm,” Allen said.

Allen, who lost his left arm in a car accident in 1984, claimed he was afraid of being attacked again, so he raised his hand and stated, “I am no threat to you.”

On March 13, at the scene of the attack at the Four Seasons in Fort Lauderdale, Ohio-born Max Hartley, 19, was detained by police. He is accused of attacking the drummer and the woman who tried to intervene to help Allen.
