Wrecking Ball singer Miley Ray Cyrus had a different birth name until she legally changed it in 2008 when she turned 15-years-old. Born to American Singer-songwriter Billy Ray Cyrus and actress Tish Cyrus, she was originally named Destiny Hope Cyrus then she changed her name to Miley Ray Cyrus. 

The name Destiny Hope was given by her parents as they believed she would go on to do incredible things. Miley was nicknamed Smiley as she was very bright since her younger days. This nickname was later shortened by her to Miley, which she used as her stage name during Hannah Montana days. She retained Ray as her middle name in the honor of her grandfather Ronald Ray Cyrus, a Democratic party member from Kentucky.

When Miley married her now ex-husband Liam Hemsworth in 2018, she took his last name and was then called Miley Ray Hemsworth. This was revealed by Hemsworth himself during his interview on Live with Kelly and Ryan. When the couple finalized their divorce in 2020, the Malibu singer dropped Hemsworth from her name.

Miley rose to fame for her dual role performance in Disney’s popular sitcom Hannah Montana which was released on March 24, 2006. The show had four seasons and aired its last episode on January 16, 2011.

After establishing herself as a talented actress Miley also became a successful singer-songwriter, she went on to win various awards such as the Kids’ Choice Award for Favourite Female TV Star in 2007 and 2007, the Kids’ Choice Award for Favourite Movie Actress in 2010 and 2011. She also won MTV Europe Music Award for Best US Act in 2013, Teen Choice Award for Choice Instagrammer in 2014 and the same year she won iHeartRadio Music Award for Best Lyrics.
