American radio host Angela Yee tweeted, “The breakfast club as you know it is officially over,” on Tuesday. 

The Breakfast Club is a four-and-a-half-hour morning show that features interviews with celebrities and hip-hop artists from DJ Envy, Angela Yee, and Charlamagne Tha God. 

It is a New York City-based syndicated radio show. It currently broadcasts in over 90 radio markets across the United States, including Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Miami under WWPR-FM Power 105.1 flagship.

The Breakfast Club features segments like Angela Yee’s Rumor Report, where Angela discusses the most recent news in pop culture while Envy and Charlamagne offer their individual perspectives, Donkey of the Day, where Charlamagne picks a public figure or celebrity to make fun of following public gaffes; and DJ Envy’s People’s Choice Mix, which is a continuous 25 minutes of DJ Envy’s award-winning music mixes.

The Breakfast Club debuted as a morning drive radio show on Urban Contemporary station WWPR-FM, serving the New York City market in 2010.

Weekends with the Breakfast Club, a Top 20 Countdown of urban contemporary hits, was introduced by Premiere Networks in April 2013 as a weekend edition of the programme. The Breakfast Club was introduced into syndication four months later as a weekday offering.

Due to the popularity of the programme, cameras were set up in the New York studio where the programme is broadcast. The Breakfast Club started airing concurrently on the Revolt television network in March 2014.

The Breakfast Club received an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding News in January 2020.

The Breakfast Club was put forward for induction into the Radio Hall of Fame in July 2020. Talkers, a publication for the talk radio industry, listed it among the top 100 talk radio programmes in its 2020 “Heavy Hundred” list, describing it as “appointment listening every day for people of colour.”

The Los Angeles Times described it as “a radio forum for the nation’s racial reckoning” following the George Floyd protests. According to Nielsen, the programme has 8 million monthly listeners as of July 2020.
