Actor Aamir Khan and wife Kiran Rao announced their separation after 15 years of marriage. They said they were ready to start a new chapter as %u201Cco-parents and family for each other%u201D.
%u201CIn these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect and love. Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives – no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other,%u201D they said in a statement.
“We began a planned separation some time ago, and now feel comfortable to formalise this arrangement, of living separately yet sharing our lives the way an extended family does,” the statement added.

Khan and Rao said they will remain devoted parents to their son Azad.
The two met on the sets of %u2018Lagaan,%u2019 in which Kiran Rao was one of the assistant directors of the movie. They started dating in 2004 and got married the following year.
They celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary at the Gir National Park in December last year. Videos from the celebration showed the actor singing romantic songs for his wife.
Khan and Rao were producers for %u2018Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na%u2019, %u2018Peepli Live%u2019 and %u2018Delhi Belly.’
