Bollywood’s ‘Mr Perfectionist’ Aamir Khan has won hearts and several awards over the years for his dedication and meticulous detailing in each of the films he has worked in. He is regarded as one of the finest and well-researched actors of the Hindi cinema industry and this prowess has earned him appreciation from Hollywood star Robert Downey Jr as well. He even called Aamir Tom Stanks of Bollywood.

This is about the time when Robert Downey Jr, most popular for his role as Tony Stark or Iron Man in Marvel movies, showered praises on Aamir Khan for his impeccable performance in the Oscar-nominated movie ‘Lagaan.’

In a 2010 interview with Bombay Times, Downey Jr said, “I happened to see ‘Lagaan’ and believe Aamir Khan was extraordinary. India is a land waiting to happen for me and I would love to visit it as soon as I get a chance. All that comes to mind when I hear of this country is diversity, vibrancy, and Bollywood.”

That’s not it, Robert also went on to call Aamir the “Tom Hanks of India.” This compliment holds all the more value now as Aamir is has pursued the Hindi remake of Tom Hanks movie ‘Forrest Gump.’ We are talking about Aamir’s upcoming movie ‘Laal Singh Chaddha.’

For the unversed, Aamir’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ is a Hindi remake of Tom Hank’s Oscar-winning movie ‘Forrest Gump.’

Coming back to Lagaan, it is one of the most iconic films of all time and went on to receive an Oscar nomination in 2002 under the Best Foreign Language Film category. The film has also won eight National Film Awards, including Best Choreography, Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, Best Music Direction, Best Audiography, Best Lyricist and Best Art Direction.

Lagaan recently completed 15 years of its making and the team has celebrated the occasion by organising a virtual reunion of the cast. 

It was attended by Aamir along with British actor Paul Blackthorne, who played the role of Captain Russell in the film and is best remembered for his dialogue “Tum saala ghulam log” and “dugna lagaan.”

Actor Aamir Khan and director-producer Kiran Rao announced their separation after 15 years of marriage, leaving the entire Indian film fraternity and his fans in shock. However, the couple later issued  a statement saying that they had an amicable split and will remain friends even after the divorce.
