It’s been an exciting time to be a DC fan since James Gunn and Peter Safran took over the newly minted DC Studios for Warner Brothers Discovery this past October.
One of the exciting developments since that time has been the announcement that Henry Cavill was officially back as Superman and that a Man of Steel 2 was in development. However, it might not be all sunshine and rainbows for DC fans as it’s now being reported that this highly anticipated, long-awaited, Superman sequel may not be happening after all.

“The first, which builds on the shuttering of Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3, is the closing curtain of the Snyderverse, and the heroes cast by filmmaker Zack Snyder for his Justice League. This one sees the shutting down of Man of Steel 2 with a returning Henry Cavill, and having no more Aquaman, fronted by Jason Momoa,” The Hollywood Reporter wrote in a recent article.
According to the report, Cavill recorded a cameo for the upcoming The Flash alongside Momoa’s Aquaman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, but given this momentous news, it’s possible that scene won’t make it into the final cut of the movie. To be fair, these are just reported at this point; neither WB nor Gunn have yet reacted to confirm or refute the news. Nevertheless, given what has happened with Cavill’s Superman over the past few months, this is all quite strange.

At the conclusion of Black Adam, Cavill made his triumphant comeback as DC’s main protagonist in a jaw-dropping cameo. DC supporters finally got what they had been waiting for when he met Dwayne Johnson’s anti-hero and said that they needed “to talk.” The following Monday, Cavill officially declared on his social media accounts that he was reprising his role as Superman and that his appearance in Black Adam was just a sneak preview of things to come.
Afterward, it was revealed that Man of Steel 2 was actually in production. The Flash and It director Andy Muschietti reportedly expressed interest in helming the movie that would have brought back the heroic feelings of Richard Donner’s seminal 1978 film, according to THR.

What occurred between the end of October and the present? Well, as things are today, we merely lack knowledge. Once more, these are only murmurs and reports. However, Black Adam might be involved. Depending on who you ask, the movie either broke even to turn a little profit or lost money. Superman may have been impacted by that underwhelming box office performance, but that still doesn’t make any sense.
Black Adam and Superman are not the same. especially in terms of popularity. Even if that were the case, it still wouldn’t explain why WB allowed fans to believe Cavill was returning and allowed him to post a video claiming as much if they were uncertain of the actor’s future involvement with the DC Universe. If all of this is accurate, WB will need to respond to these inquiries.

As of right now, Cavill’s Superman’s future, along with the rest of the so-called “Snyderverse,” is in grave danger. Hopefully, there is something else we are unaware of. In the upcoming days, we are certain to learn more about the situation.
