The disappearance of Lucie Blackman in Japan in 2000 was a tragic event, and her body was not discovered until February 2001.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Lucie Blackman had been dismembered, and millionaire Joji Obara was identified as the perpetrator. As police delved deeper into the case, they uncovered disturbing evidence, leading them to believe that Obara might have raped hundreds of women.
On July 26, Netflix released a true crime documentary titled “Missing: The Lucie Blackman Case.”

Who is Tim Blackman?
Tim Blackman, the father of Lucie Blackman, plays a central role in the documentary that explores his daughter’s tragic death.
After Lucie vanished, Tim wasted no time and flew to Japan just a week later to personally search for her. Determined to bring attention to her case, he worked tirelessly to keep her name and disappearance in the news. He mounted pressure on the Japanese authorities to intensify their efforts to find her.
Tim held press conferences and distributed Lucie’s picture all over Tokyo, where she had been living and working before her disappearance. He hoped to reach out to as many people as possible and gather any information that could lead to finding his daughter.
In the documentary, Tim recounts his relentless efforts to make Obara pay for his crimes and bring justice to his daughter Lucie.
In 2007, Obara was found not guilty of any crimes related to Lucie and her death. This verdict came despite the charges brought against him for drugging, raping, and killing Lucie. The lack of sufficient evidence led to his acquittal, leaving the family devastated.
Undeterred by the outcome, Lucie’s family pushed for an appeal in 2008. In December of the same year, Obara was convicted of abduction, dismembering and disposing of Lucie’s body.
