The Neighbourhood drummer
Brandon Fried was dropped from the band after María Zardoya,
the lead singer of pop band The Marías accused him of sexual assault.

María
claimed in an Instagram story on Sunday that Fried had groped her at a bar the
previous night. “It was one of the most uncomfortable things I’ve ever
experienced. I felt an invasion of my space, privacy, and body.”, she wrote.

Just hours after that, in an announcement
on their social media, The Neighbourhood wrote “We are grateful to Maria for coming forward. We have
zero tolerance for any kind of inappropriate behaviour towards women. As a
result of Brandon’s actions, he will no longer be a member of The
Neighbourhood.”

Who are The Neighbourhood?

The Neighbourhood, also referred to as THE NBHD, are an
American rock band formed in 2011. The band consists of vocalist Jesse
Rutherford, guitarists Jeremiah Freedman and Zach Abels, and bassist Mikey
Margott. Drummer Bryan Sammis left the band in 2014, and in 2022, Brandon Fried
was dropped from the band following sexual assault allegations against him.

In May 2012, they unveiled their debut self-released EP I’m
Sorry, and released their second EP Thank You later that same year. Their debut
studio album I Love You was officially released in April 2013, debuting at number
39 on the US Billboard 200.

The Neighbourhood marked its first television performance
in June 2013 on Jimmy Kimmel Live. They performed at Coachella and went on
tour opening for Imagine Dragons. The same year, they also performed at Osheaga,
Canada’s largest music festival.

Their second studio album Wiped Out! was released in
October 2015 to mixed reviews. Their self-titled third studio album was
released in 2018 and included tracks from their previous EPs. Their latest
album Chip Chrome & the Mono-Tones was released in late 2020.

Two of their songs, Sweater Weather and Daddy Issues
gained streaming highs after getting viral on the social media platform TikTok in
2020.

The Neighbourhood’s music style has mostly been described
as alternative rock, indie rock, and pop rock. Their songs also contain
elements of R&B and electronic hip-hop.

In February 2022, it was reported that the band will be taking an indefinite hiatus.
