By winning both of the alternative music award titles at the pre-show Grammy Premiere event at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater today, the British indie rock band Wet Leg extended their winning streak.

The group triumphed over strong opposition in both categories, defeating the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arcade Fire, Florence and the Machine, Arctic Monkeys, and Florence and the Machine. When they entered the stage to receive the trophies, the group’s members appeared amazed and said, “This is so funny. Thanks so much. What are we doing here? I don’t know, but here we are. This year has been so surprising.”

Who are the Wet Leg?

Rhian Teasdale, 29, and Hester Chambers, 28, are members of the British indie-rock band Wet Leg. Rhian and Hester started the band when they were still in college. Wet Leg’s self-titled album, which was released last April, won the 2023 Grammy Award for best alternative music album, and Chaise Lounge won the award for best alternative music performance.

The band, which was founded in the Isle of Wight, England, in 2019, has established itself as an up-and-coming indie rock band to keep an eye on. According to The New York Times, the pop-rock icon Elton John played Chaise Longue after it was released in June 2021.

The gifted duo initially made the decision to start a band for pleasure, even coming up with a funny name as they were jamming for entertainment and had no expectations of getting to Hollywood.

In September 2022, Rhian and Hester’s climb to stardom became a little too much because they never imagined it would be so huge. Due to mental health issues brought on by the strain of their hectic traveling schedules, they were forced to cancel two performances in America.

Later tonight, during the CBS Grammy presentation, Wet Leg is also vying for the best new artist. The ensemble will play both weekends of the Coachella event in April, as well as an international tour that kicks off on February 13 in Nagoya, Japan. This summer, they also have a string of performances with Harry Styles opening planned.
