Ace the Bat-Hound is a super dog appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Kevin Hart will voice the character in the upcoming 3D animated movie DC League of Super Pets. The movie is set to release in the United States on July 29, 2022.

Ace’s character was introduced in Batman#92 in 1995. Ace was created by writer Bill Finger and artist Sheldon Moldoff.

Ace was originally a lost dog. Batman and Robin found him while rescuing Ace’s owner who was kidnapped by gang members. Batman used Ace to try to locate Wilker. Due to a large “lost dog” announcement for Ace, Bruce Wayne was concerned that anyone recognising Ace might make a connection between Bruce Wayne and Batman. To forestall the problem, Batman created a hood in the shape of his own bat mask and fitted it to Ace.

Batman equipped Ace with a tiny receiver that would send signals whenever Bat-Hound was needed and a device that would allow Ace to pull his own mask. When Bruce was overcome with a night terror, Robin suggested Ace sleep beside him. The character disappeared from the Batman comics after Julius Schwartz took over the edition in 1964.

In DC Rebirth, Ace was used by the Joker as an attack dog. Ace and other dogs were abandoned in a pit for unknown reasons without food. Ace managed to survive and was rescued from the pit by Commissioner Gordon. He was later adopted by Alfred Pennyworth. Alfred manages to properly train Ace for Christmas, and Bruce starts bonding with the dog. He gets Ace a bat mask for Christmas and calls him a “Bat Hound”.

During a scene attended by Bruce Wayne and Harry Houdini, Ace was referred to as Bruce Wayne’s childhood pet. In Batman: Castle of the Bat, Dr Bruce Wayne tests his theories by creating a literal Bat-Hound, a dog with some attributes of a bat.
