Latto and Nicki Minaj got into a fuss after the latter’s smash hit “Super Freaky Girl” was taken out of all rap categories at the 2023 Grammy Awards. Latto’s popular song “Big Energy” is expected to be nominated for at least one Grammy rap category.

On Twitter and Instagram Live, Minaj was complaining about not being given consideration for any rap categories when she issued the ultimatum that if “Super Freaky Girl” wasn’t going to receive any consideration, then Latto’s “Big Energy” shouldn’t either.

She wrote on Twitter, “If SFG has 2B shifted out RAP, then so has Big Energy.” “Anyone who disagrees is either a troll or a Nicki hater”.

Who is Alyssa Michelle Stephens?

Alyssa Michelle Stephens popularly known as Latto was born on December 22, 1998. She is the only child of Misti Pitts and Shayne Stephens. She was raised in Georgia and she attended Lovejoy High School in Clayton County. 

Latto decided to become a rapper when she was 10 years old and started creating her own rap music. She was a drag racer before she started making music. 

Latto’s Career as a Musician 

Latto started her career in 2016 by participating in the Lifetime reality series The Rap Game, produced by Jermaine Dupri and Queen Latifah.

Over the course of eight weeks, the boot camp-style series followed young wannabe rappers as they competed with one another. The overall winner of the contest was Latto, who at the time went by the stage name “Miss Mulatto.” Dupri offered her a recording deal with So So Def Records, but she finally declined it because she felt the money was insufficient and chose to work independently.

She got a major break after releasing the song  Bitch from da Souf in January 2019. 

She received an invitation to perform at the Rolling Loud festival in Miami, Florida, in May 2019. Her second extended piece, Big Latto, which was followed by “Bitch from da Souf,” was published in June 2019.  The song became her breakthrough hit and was given a gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in the United States. It peaked at number 95 on the Billboard Hot 100 list.

On September 4, 2020 Latto appeared on the remix of “Do It” by Chloe x Halle along with Doja Cat and City Girls. Latto was also  nominated on September 29 for Best New Hip Hop Artist at the 2020 BET Hip Hop Awards, where she also gave a performance.

The decision to change Latto’s stage name from “Mulatto” was made official in January 2021 in response to the debate over whether the term being deemed to be colorist.

Latto announced on March 9, 2022 that fellow Atlanta rapper 21 Savage will be featured in the single “Wheelie,” which would be released on March 11. The second studio album by Latto, 777, was released on March 25 and featured all three songs. She released the song “Pussy” on July 15, 2022.
