Averie Bishop, the 2022 Miss Texas winner, ended up as the second runner-up in the 2023 Miss America Pageant.

The annual Miss America Organization, founded in 1921, has changed through the years from a beauty pageant to an organization that awards winners scholarships to assist significant social causes. The organization has switched from depending exclusively on a contestant’s appearance to now emphasizing the participants’ intelligence.

Who is Averie Bishop?

Averie Bishop, 25, is a graduate of Southern Methodist University and also obtained a Juris Doctor (law) degree there. Bishop was the first Filipino-American to win the Miss Texas pageant in 2022. She was the second runner-up in Miss America 2023.

On her website, Bishop describes herself as a “first-generation law student diversifying the digital space through education and career-based content.” She also proudly lists herself as a marathon runner who has dined and taken selfies with two presidents. Bishop is also a Dallas council member.

She was appointed by the Mayor of Dallas to their new Anti-Hate and Discrimination Advisory Council. In an interview, she said serving the community is her way of paying back. “Growing up in very challenging circumstances with parents who sacrificed so much for me to become the force of nature that I am today,” she added.

Bishop with her mother co-founded the non-profit organization The Tulong Foundation. She is the director of the foundation. The non-profit’s mission is to provide accessible education to children in developing countries. More than 45 children in the Philippines are now sponsored by it.

She published several behind-the-scenes pieces over the course of her week-long participation in Miss Texas. They covered a variety of topics, including how she prepares her make-up for various competition segments and showcasing her daily attire.
