Bianca Miquela Landrau, professionally known as Bia,

has collaborated with Nicki Minaj for the track Super Freaky Girl (Queen Mix), which was released on September 9, 2022. The hotly anticipated track also features pop stars including JT, Katie Got Bandz, Akbar V, and Malibu Mitch.

Bia

is an American rapper who made her debut on the Oxygen reality show Sisterhood of Hip Hop. Bia was previously signed to Pharrell’s I Am Other label, but is currently signed with Atlantic Records.

The US rapper has also hinted that Jamaican singer Shenseea may make an appearance on her upcoming debut studio album. The Whole Lotta Money rap artist tweeted photos of herself in the studio with New York music producer Lil Rich on September 6. The producer held up a whiteboard with what seemed to be the tracklist of the BIA Album, but the titles were all struck out in one of the shots.

Who is Bia?

Bia was born on August 16, 1991, in Medford, Massachusetts which is only a few miles from Boston and would hardly be considered the world’s rap mecca. According to USA Today, she claims her hometown has made her feel like an “underdog”.

“They don’t really respect it as much when you live in a certain place or are from a certain place,” the rapper told Spin in May.

The Puerto Rican and Italian-American rapper attended Medford High School before dropping out to pursue music full-time. “I was bartending and doing odd jobs to make ends meet,” she told Latino USA. In the quest to pursue her dreams, BIA moved to Los Angeles in 2017.

Bia’s music career

Bia was catapulted to stardom when her YouTube channel garnered attention from renowned rapper Fam-Lay, who later introduced the budding star to Pharell Williams, who presented her with a “do or die” opportunity during their first meeting.

“He threw a song on and said, ‘Write a 16 (bar verse) to this. If it’s good, I’ll keep you on (his music label) and if it’s bad, I’m gonna take you off.’ That was the first day I met him,” she told Oxygen in 2014. “It took me 15, 20 minutes. I went in the studio, recorded it and came out and it was history.”

In 2014, she signed to the I Am Other music label as part of a collaboration with RCA Records and began working with the industry giants like T.I, Jennifer Hudson, and Usher. She also released a mixtape titled #CholaSeason later that year.

In 2018, Bia announced her first EP, Nice Girls Finish Last: Cuidado. She released her second EP, For Certain, in 2020, which included her hit single Whole Lotta Money, but she first gained mainstream attention for her features on J Balvin’s Safari in 2016 and Russ’ Best on Earth in 2019, both of which went viral thanks to Rihanna’s show-stopping Instagram post. Rihanna described Best on Earth as her “new fav song.”

Bia’s 2020 hit single went viral on TikTok, garnering star support from Cardi B, Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Lizzo, Lil Nas X, and even Minaj, who said she wanted to jump on the official remix after being impressed by Bia’s lyricism.

“The lines felt fresh to me, and hip-hop felt fresh,” Minaj said on Instagram Live, wishing Bia, “Best wishes for your future career, thank you for being a genuine sweetheart.”
