Billy Ray Cyrus has announced his engagement to Firerose, a 34-year-old Australian singer. During a recent interview with People, the 61-year-old singer confirmed the rumours and talked candidly about his relationship.

Who is Billy Cyrus?

Billy Ray Cyrus was born in Flatwoods, Kentucky, on August 25, 1961. He is of Caucasian ancestry, and his parents are Ronald Ray Cyrus and Ruth Ann Casto. Cyrus was exposed to music when he was a young child. His father and mother were both accomplished musicians.

Cyrus graduated from Kentucky’s Russell High School and then attended Georgetown College. In 1982, he and his brother collaborated to form the band “Sly Dog,” and they were able to secure gigs in Ohio. Shortly after that, he left college. The band’s instruments were destroyed in a fire in 1984. Sly Dog split up, and Cyrus pursued his career on his own.

In 1992, he released his first single, “Achy Breaky Heart,” and his record label heavily promoted it. The video for “Achy Breaky Heart” received a lot of attention in clubs and on country-formatted television, which led to a lot of airplay for the single. The single “Achy Breaky Heart” went platinum, and Cyrus’ debut album, Some Gave All, rocketed to the top of the Billboard charts and sold nine million copies.

In 1999, Cyrus dabbled in acting by portraying a country singer named Lasso Larry Larson on an episode of The Love Boat: The Next Wave, and in 2001, he landed a small role in David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive.

Miley Cyrus (born the same year “Achy Breaky Heart” was a hit) was cast as an ordinary teenager who moonlights as a pop star in the Disney situation comedy Hannah Montana, and Billy Ray co-starred as her father and manager, Robbie Stewart. While Miley was the show’s star, Hannah Montana’s massive success gave Billy Ray a lot of face time and significantly raised his profile.

Billy Ray Cyrus and Lil Nas X won their first Grammy Awards together. The collaborators won best music video for “Old Town Road” in 2020, their mega-popular song that blends pop, country, and rap for a catchy tune that’s also nominated for record of the year and won best pop duo/group performance.
