Who is Britney Spears?

Britney Spears is an American singer, songwriter, and actor. Often credited with initiating the revival of pop music in the 90s and 20s, she is popularly known as the “Princess of Pop”. 

Britney’s first two studio albums, ‘Baby One More Time (1999) and ‘Oops!… I Did It Again’ (2000) was an instant global success and became two of the best-selling albums of all time, along with making her the best-selling teenage artist of all time. She was 15 at the time her albums were released.

In her 20 years of a lustrous musical career, Spears has scored six number-one albums on the Billboard 200. She also has four solo number-one singles on the US Billboard Hot 100. These songs are ‘Baby One More Time,’ ‘Womanizer’, “3”, and “Hold It Against Me”.

Spears also has several prestigious music awards to her credit like the Grammy Award, 15 Guinness World Records, 6 MTV Video Music Awards, Millennium Award, the Radio Disney Icon Award, 7 Billboard Music Awards among others. She also stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Britney has sold over 100 million records worldwide, including over 70 million solely in the United States, making her one of the world’s best-selling music artists.

Britney was married twice. Her first marriage was with a childhood friend Jason Alexander in 2004. However, that marriage was annulled 55 hours later, following a petition to the court that stated that Spears “lacked understanding of her actions as she was reportedly drunk at the time of the wedding.

Her second marriage was with  Kevin Federline who is an American rapper, DJ, actor, television personality, professional wrestling personality, and fashion model. Their marriage lasted for three years from 2004 to 2007.

One of the most controversial parts of her life, the conservatorship of her father began in 2008 after Jamie Spears, petitioned for an emergency ‘temporary conservatorship’ owing to Britneys’s several public mental breakdowns. The court later granted him the legal right to oversee decisions about Britney’s estate and health, including negotiating business deals and restricting who can and cannot see her, reported LA times.
