American actress and comedian Cecily Strong left the late-night television and sketch comedy and variety show Saturday Night Live.

She announced her departure through an Instagram post before filming her last episode for the comedy show on December 17, 2022.

She left the show after working for 10 years. She, in her post, wrote that her heart is bursting. News of Cecily’s exit from the show came out as a shocker for her fans as she decided to leave the show in the middle of the season which is not very common.

Who is Cecily Strong?

Cecily Legler Strong, commonly known as Cecily Strong, is an American comedian and actress born on February 8, 1984, in Springfield, Illinois, United States. She was raised in Oak Park, Chicago.

Her father William Strong was an associated press bureau chief and now works independently in his own public relations firm. Penny Legler Strong, Cecily’s mother, is a nurse practitioner.

She studied at Oak Park and River Forest High School but couldn’t complete her high school there. This is because she was expelled from her school for bringing marijuana. She graduated from the Chicago Academy of the Arts in 2002. In 2006, she graduated with a BFA in theatre from the California Institute of the Arts where she learned acting.

Cecily made her debut on Saturday Night Live on September 15, 2012, as a featured player. She then became a repertory player and worked as a co-anchor in the show’s next season. She became a nominee of the Primetime Emmy Award for the first time for Outstanding Supporting Actress in A Comedy Series for her work on the show in 2020. She was nominated again for the same in 2021. She is also a nominee for the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series of Critic’s Choice Television award.

At the age of 38, Strong left her show Saturday Night Live on December 17, 2022. She announced her exit from the show through an Instagram post before filming her last episode.  

Her departure from the show shocked everyone as she decided to leave the show in the midseason.
