The third and final season of Dead to Me, according to Christina Applegate, maybe the last time viewers see her on television.

According to the 50-year-old Anchorman actor, who is currently battling multiple sclerosis, her major role as Jen Harding in the popular Netflix series could be her last.

“Jen Harding is the one, who — who knows, quite possibly the last one I’ll play. With my disease, I don’t know how capable I am,” Applegate announced.

“But this was a gift. This was a gift to me,” she added.

The Married…with Children alum disclosed in August 2021 that she had received her MS diagnosis a few months earlier. MS is a chronic condition that affects the brain and central nervous system.

When Applegate learned of her illness, she was in the middle of filming the final season of Dead to Me. For roughly five months, the show’s production was put on hold as she started her treatment.

“I got diagnosed while we were working, and I had to call everybody and be like, “I have multiple sclerosis, guys. Like, what the f–k! And then it was about kind of learning — all of us learning — what I was going to be capable of doing,” Applegate said.

Applegate said that the final season would be “too hard” for her to watch, and she doesn’t think she will. She found it challenging, but she was determined to finish the show.

Robert William “Bob” Applegate, her father, was a record producer and executive for a record label. Nancy Priddy, her mother, is a singer and actor. Her parents split up not long after she was born.

Alisa and Kyle are her two half-siblings from her father’s second marriage. Applegate’s mother dated musician Stephen Stills following her divorce.

Applegate received dancing instruction in a variety of genres as a child, including jazz and ballet. She rose to fame as a child actor after playing Kelly Bundy in the Fox sitcom Married… with Children (1987–1997).

As an adult, Applegate developed a lucrative career in cinema and television, garnering seven nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award, four Golden Globe Awards, and a Tony Award.

Applegate received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance as Jesse, the titular character of the NBC sitcom, which ran from 1998 to 2000.

She won a Primetime Emmy Award for her appearance on Friends on NBC (2002–2003). She received a Tony nomination for Best Actress in a Musical in 2005 for her work in the Broadway revival of Sweet Charity.

Actor Johnathon Schaech and Applegate were married on October 20, 2001, in Palm Springs, California. Using the grounds of irreconcilable differences, Schaech filed for divorce in December 2005. The divorce was granted in August 2007.

She started dating Dutch musician Martyn LeNoble in 2009. On February 14, 2010, the pair got engaged, and they married on February 23, 2013, in their Los Angeles residence. For both, it was their second marriage. They welcomed a daughter in January 2011.

Applegate, a vegetarian, made an appearance in a PETA anti-fur ad in 2007.

People magazine claimed in 2008 that Applegate had been given a breast cancer diagnosis. “Christina Applegate was diagnosed with an early stage of breast cancer. Detected early through a doctor-ordered MRI, the cancer was not life-threatening. Christina is following the recommended treatment of her doctors and will have a full recovery,” a spokesperson stated.

Even though only one breast developed cancer, she underwent a double mastectomy and was declared cancer-free. She inherited a BRCA1 mutation, a genetic condition that can lead to breast and ovarian cancer. Her mother has also battled breast cancer.

“I was just shaking and then, also immediately, I had to go into ‘take-care-of-business mode,’ which included a change to a more healthy diet,” Applegate recalled of her initial reaction to being diagnosed.

Applegate revealed in August 2021 that she had received a multiple sclerosis diagnosis a few months earlier.
