Carole Baskin’s ex-husband, who was declared legally dead in 2002 after going missing years earlier, has been found alive and well. Somehow we all missed Baskin’s insane revelation that Lewis, long thought to have been murdered, is “alive and well” in Costa Rica, according to a 2021 interview with ITV’s This Morning show.
However, the Tiger King star said she was unaware of the alleged revelation until the sequel series aired in November 2021, according to a New York Post report. “I was not aware of it until ‘TK2’ aired,” Baskin said pointing to her Big Cats Rescue blog, reported New York Post.
Who is Don Lewis?
Jack Donald Lewis is a missing person who disappeared on the morning of August 18, 1997, after leaving his home in Tampa, Florida. The investigation into his mysterious disappearance has gone from Lewis’ Wildlife on Easy Street sanctuary in Tampa to land owned by him in Costa Rica. No evidence of Lewis being murdered has surfaced.
He left behind $5 million in assets. He was pronounced legally dead in 2002, five years after his disappearance. Baskin was involved in a legal battle with Lewis’ children over his assets and the latter received $1 million while the Netflix star received the remaining fortune.
Carole Baskin and Don Lewis got married in 1991 and established Big Cat Rescue together in 1992. The couple has disagreements over the purpose of the sanctuary as the former wanted to use it for charity while the latter wanted it for business. After a few years, Lewis started spending most of his time in Costa Rica for business purposes. His first wife Gladys alleged that he wanted to divorce Carole shortly after their wedding.
He had three daughters and an adopted son with Gladys. Joe Exotic, along with Don Lewis’ children and Gladys, alleged that Baskin murdered her husband and fed him to the big cats.
