American music mogul Dr Dre has been in the news for the past few months for his ongoing divorce case with wife Nicole Young. In a recent development, the rapper-songwriter was ordered by a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge to pay his wife, Nicole Young, a sum of $293,306 every month in spousal support as the couple continues to attend court for alimony and spousal issues. While many are aware of his proficiency in the field of music, let’s dive deeper into his career and know a little more about him.

Who is Dr Dre?

Andre Romello Young, also known as Dr Dre is an American rapper, songwriter, record producer, audio engineer, and entrepreneur. Dr Dre started his career with World Class Wreckin’ Cru in 1985 and later joined the gangsta rap group N.W.A, that dabbled in social issues through its music in the underground rap scene. Dr Dre founded Aftermath Entertainment and Beats Electronics after previously co-founding Death Row Records.

Dr Dre popularised West Coast G-funk, a hip hop subgenre that is identified by heavy and slow beats, backed by a synthesizer foundation in the early 1900s.

He shot to fame with his debut studio album The Chronic (1992), which was released under Death Row Records. The album broke charts and made him one of the best-selling American music artists of 1993. The artist later went on to win a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance for the single ‘Let Me Ride’, as well as several awards for ‘Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang’.

Dr Dre has time and again been accused of violence against women. This started with the assault of television host Dee Barnes, which he was fined $2,500 for. The artist was also given a two-year long probation and ordered to do community service for 240 hours, as he was mentioned in an anti-violence public service announcement.
