Dwayne Johnson’s decade-long labour of love Black Adam  released in theatres around the world on October 20. As the titular character, Johnson has literally manifested, sought, and made it happen with dedication. Johnson was rumoured to be playing Black Adam in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) in 2008.

The studio didn’t know where to put him for the next 14 years. However, Johnson, aka Rock, had made it clear that he would make it happen no matter what, and he stuck by it for a decade. The studio eventually decided to give him what he deserved, and the film was released on October 18.

Who is Dwayne Johnson?

Dwayne Johnson is an American actor, businessman and a former professional wrestler. Popular by the name ‘The Rock’, he wrestled for eight years before his acting career.  Born in California in 1972, he was raised in a family of athletes. His father Rocky Johnson was a professional wrestler and his mother played rugby. His maternal grandmother was the first female wrestling promoter.

In 1995, Johnson graduated from the University of Miami. He was a college football player and was a part of the University of Miami’s national championship team. He chose to be a professional wrestler soon after being eliminated from the Canadian Football League. He gained mainstream fame as a wrestler in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) which was known as the WWF earlier. He received additional training from Tom Prichard and Mark Henry. In the initial two years after he joined the WWF, he won the WWF Championship. He became one of the most popular wrestlers and the first third-generation superstar in the company’s history. 

Johnson began acting in 2001

He began acting in 2001 along with being a professional wrestler. Johnson’s first prominent role as an actor was in The Scorpion King in 2002. He is one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood. He has appeared in many movies such as The Rundown, Be Cool, Walking Tall, Gridiron Gang, The Game Plan, Get Smart, Race to Witch Mountain, Planet 51 and many others. He is on the Forbes Celebrity 100 list. Johnson will also star in Black Adam and the DC League of Super-Pets, which are set to release this year. 

Apart from being an actor and professional wrestler he also wrote his autobiography titled The Rock Says. This book was on The New York Times Bestseller List for a couple of weeks. Johnson also started his own production house Seven Bucks Production in 2012. Dwayne Johnson is a philanthropist and has founded the Dwayne Johnson Rock Foundation, a charity organization working for terminally ill children. He also donated $1 million to the University of Miami to fund its renovation of football facilities.
